From Knossos to Lake Arenal
Look closely at our columns. They come from a palace on the island of Crete.
In 1992, Hotel Tilawa was built in Tilarán by Jean Paul Cadessus, a lover of sports, architecture and beer. He drew his inspiration from the Minoan culture and from the palace of Knossos, one of its most advanced architectural complexes.
What we kept
- Complex, flowing architecture
- Iconic red and black columns
- Ochre-toned murals inspired by mythology and daily life
- Open spaces connected to nature
That is why we call it a living labyrinth: each space offers a different layer of discovery. It is also why our rooms are named Gaia, Helios, Ariadna, Minos and Creta.
Since then the hotel has grown a brewery, a farm, a restaurant and a commitment to sustainability. The columns stayed.
